Quick answer: mid-December through April is the classic season — drier, breezy and lively, but also the busiest and priciest. May and June are a sweet spot for warm water and fewer crowds. August through October is the heart of hurricane season: the cheapest, quietest time, with more weather risk.

December – April: peak season

Trade winds keep things comfortable, rain is lighter, and the island is in full swing. The Crucian Christmas Festival fills the holidays with parades, food fairs and village nights, and Agrifest (the agriculture and food fair) usually lands in February. Book flights, cars and rooms early.

May – July: the shoulder

The water is warm and calm, rates start to drop, and restaurants are easier to book. Hurricane season officially starts June 1, but early-season storms are less common than later in the year.

August – October: quiet season

This is peak hurricane risk. Some businesses close for a few weeks to rest and repair, so double-check opening hours in our directory. If you go, get travel insurance and keep an eye on the National Weather Service.

November: the island wakes up

Hurricane season ends November 30, crowds are still light, and the island starts gearing up for the holidays — a good-value month with a growing buzz.

What doesn’t change

Air temperatures sit in the 80s °F most of the year and the sea stays warm enough to swim every month. Event dates move from year to year, so check our St. Croix Today page and the USVI Department of Tourism before you book around a festival.
